Jamey McDaniel Senior Warden 334-762-2282 Email : None Jamey McDaniel is St. Michael's Senior Warden on the vestry and our Choirmaster. You see him each Sunday playing the piano and organ during the service. Jamey was born in Athens, Tennessee, and his family moved to Ariton, Alabama when he was one. He went to elementary school in Ariton, but beginning his sophomore year in high school Jamey transferred to Carroll High School because they had a band. Jamey played the tuba in the band and for his three years in the Carroll High School Band he held first chair in the tuba section. Jamey was also in the Choral Club both singing with them and playing the piano. Jamey started playing the piano when he was seven during second grade. After graduation, Jamey went to Troy state as an organ music major. He met Dr. Dennison there in the music department who taught him organ. Also, Dr. Dennison was an Episcopalian at St. Marks. He invited Jamey to come sing in the choir at St. Marks. That was Jamey's first experience in the Episcopal Church, since he had been raised a Baptist. After a year at Troy State, Jamey moved to Birmingham. While Jamey lived in Birmingham he was confirmed in the Cathedral of the Advent. He also attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Birmingham. Then Jamey made a bigger move to New York and Boston. He became a pastry chef there and also became an acolyte the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Boston. When Jamey moved back to Birmingham, he became the Acolyte Master at the Cathedral of the Advent. He said the altar hangings and other items around the altar were so valuable that they did not allow young children to be acolytes. Only responsible adults could be acolytes. In 1985 Jamey was catering a party for St. Andrews Society. This was a group of Scotsmen and they had bagpipe players there. Jamey made the comment that he would like to learn to play the bagpipes. From that comment the members gave him the beginner bagpipe and information on how to play it. He mainly taught himself how to play the bagpipes, and now he plays at many special occasions. Jamey came back to Ariton to stay with his mother and take care of his aging grandfather. This was in 1992, and he came to St. Michael's that year too. He has brought so many wonderful gifts of talent to St. Michael's. |
